To burn your candles, always melt the entire surface of your candle before extinguishing the flame. Before burning, trim the wick to just under 1 cm, making sure the excess wick doesn't fall back into the wax. Instead of blowing out your candle, it's best to extinguish it with a candle snuffer to prevent the wick from smoldering.
